Portland, Ore. - Your neighborhood’s best organic coffee may be coming to a retailer near you.
Coffee Bean International, one of the country’s leading specialty coffee roasters, announced it is expanding the handcrafted, organic and Fair Trade Café Tierra® line of coffees. Created in 1983, Café Tierra was the first certified organic specialty coffee brand in the US. Until now it has only been sold through independent coffeehouses but is now available to select quality-oriented retailers nationwide.
“We are very proud of Café Tierra, both in terms of its innovative history and continued quality. We’re pleased to make it available to retailers across the country who are looking for a high quality, and high value coffee brand to satisfy the cost-conscious organic buyer,” says Patrick Criteser, President & CEO of Coffee Bean International.
Coffee Bean International continues the Café Tierra heritage of leadership in sustainability by being 100 percent certified organic by both OCIA International and USDA, as well as Fair Trade Certified™ by TransFair. In addition, Café Tierra sales support Coffee Kids, a nonprofit committed to helping coffee-farming families improve their quality of life, with 50 cents donated for every bag of coffee sold.
Paul Rice, President and CEO of TransFair USA, the independent, third party certifier of Fair Trade Certified™ products said, “The expansion of Café Tierra to grocery stores will have a far-reaching, positive impact on coffee-growing communities throughout the world. With each bag sold, small-scale coffee farmers are enabled to invest in sustainable farming practices, improve in the quality of their harvest, send their kids to school and keep their families healthy.”
Café Tierra now represents all four of the major coffee growing regions, with a full range of roast levels and flavor profiles. The line features thirteen coffees: six single origins (Nicaragua Rico, Nicaragua Vivo, Sumatra Lake Tawar, Ethiopian Yirgacheffe and Guatemala Las Colinas) and five blends (Los Montes, Casa Sol, La Fuerza, El Mosaico and Espresso Bravo), with two blends also available as water processed decaffeinated.
The Café Tierra coffees feature a hand-drawn label image and are packaged in 12-ounce, four-corner bags with one-way structural valves for freshness. Retailers have access to attractive merchandising tools and displays with branded graphics and educational information, moveable floor displays, clip strips, shelf signage, single-brew samplers, and bulk units complete with grinders.
