Do you pop for free food or small gifts at staff get togethers on a regularly scheduled basis. As well intentioned as always putting your staff's recognition first, you can fall into a predictability trap that eventually means little if anything to staff morale. You have heard of "random acts of kindness" right? If you are a habitual recognizer in predictable settings, just remember: it's a fine line between recognition and a for granted sense of entitlement. So shake up your recognition. Don't give the same kind of recognition every month, i.e. the same tired Extra mile awards. Unexpected, surprise recognition is like getting a gift when you don't expect in. It means a ton more!!
